CAT 5 INSTALLATION TIPS

(A) While terminating Category 5 twisted pair cable, be sure the natural twist of each pair is carried through as close as possible to the point of mechanical termination. EIA/TIA 568B requires no more than 1/2 inch be untwisted for Category 5. More than 1/2 inch untwisted will affect performance at high bit rates.

(B) Cable should be secured and placed in a manner which prevents kinking and tight cinching. Cable ties should never be cinched tight enough to compress the outside jacket of the cable. Cable should never be subject to excessive bends greater than 4 times the cable diameter.

(C) Never subject cable to pulling tension greater than 25 pounds. Avoid the opportunity to crush the cable accidentally such as with a ladder leg, chair caster or leg, or stepping on the cable.

(D) Always use proper tools for stripping and termination to avoid nicking the cable and an inadequate crimp.
